Great question, Camilo! Thanks. Principals often have no teams but the role itself presumes higher seniority and more freedom. Principal data engineer would be more focussed on technical innovation i would say. Staff engineer is a less senior typically. It is common that principals are considerably higher than staff engineers on the hierarchy of engineers. CDE is a c-level top management role.
